Join us for a timely discussion on why it’s increasingly difficult for small business owners in California to stay afloat and what small business owners and business support organizations (BSOs) can do to shape real solutions.
As part of California’s 4.3 million small businesses (representing 99.9% of all businesses in the state and employing roughly 7 million workers), many entrepreneurs are feeling the squeeze of rising costs and uneven market power. From soaring health care premiums—named a major burden by nearly half of small firms—to rising rents, energy costs, and complex compliance requirements, too many small business owners are working harder just to break even.
This session will unpack the broader forces driving today’s affordability crisis. We’ll explore how unchecked corporate power and growing market concentration are driving up costs, limiting competition, and making it harder for small businesses to compete. Most importantly, this is a space for your voice.
Designed for both small business owners and BSOs, this webinar creates a space to share real-world experiences and identify practical policy solutions. We want to hear directly from you about what would make a meaningful difference and discuss how those ideas can be advanced in Sacramento.
Participants will leave with:
- A clearer understanding of the economic trends shaping affordability challenges
- Insight into emerging policy efforts aimed at addressing corporate abuses and restoring fair competition
- Concrete opportunities to engage in advocacy and ensure small business voices are heard where decisions are made
We will be joined by Angie Chua from BoboDesign Studio who will be sharing her advocacy efforts from a small business perspective. One lucky winner will receive a $100 gift card to the small business of their choice. The winner will be announced in the follow-up email.
Event is co-sponsored by CAMEO Network, Economic Security CA, and Small Business Majority.
